Department of Public Health

The Randolph County Public Health Department offers the following programs and services.

Adult Health

Immunizations – provides certain immunizations for adults including diphtheria, tetanus, pertussis, influenza, pneumonia, measles, mumps, and rubella. There is a fee for services.

STD Screening and Treatment – offers confidential screening and treatment of sexually transmitted diseases, HIV counseling, testing, and confidential partner notification for Randolph County residents on Tuesday and Thursday by appointment.

The Stroke Heart Attack Prevention Program – offers enrollment in a hypertensive management service and provides limited antihypertensive medications prescribed by clients physician. Services are provided for low income clients for a minimal fee. This is a bimonthly program.

General Clinic – offers walk in services head lice checks, lead screenings, pregnancy testing, newborn screening and PPD testing on Tuesdays from 8:00 to 4:00.

District Clinical Services – provides HIV/AIDS and other communicable disease education, counseling, testing, confidential partner notification, surveillance, case management and clinical services. Services offered by district staff in the Randolph County Health Department on the 2nd and 4th Thursdays by appointment only.

Women’s Health

Women’s Health – provides women with a complete physical exam including cancer screening (Pap smears, breast and colorectal exams) and diabetes screening. Services include screenings for communicable and sexually transmitted diseases, education and counseling on healthy lifestyle choices and birth control options. Services are offered on Mondays from 8 to 4 by appointment.

BreasTest and More – screens for breast and cervical cancer, breast exam, Pap smear, screening mammogram for women 50 to 64 years of age, low-income, no insurance or underinsured. Services are offered by appointment.

Child and Adolescent Health

Immunizations – provided for children/adolescents 0-18 years old that meet Vaccine For Children eligibility requirements. Immunizations include diphtheria, tetanus, influenza, pertussis, measles, mumps, rubella, varicella (chicken pox), HIB, polio, and HEB. Offered Tuesday through Friday from 8:00 to 4:30.

School Health Services – provides scoliosis screening for high school students, immunization audits of kindergarten and first grade students, and daycare/school certificates.

WIC – provides comprehensive health and nutrition services that encourage wellness, healthy lifestyles and preventive health care. Nutrition education services and nutritious supplemental food vouchers are available to eligible Women, Infants and Children up to five years of age. Recertifications and new client assessments are Tuesdays and Wednesdays from 8-11 and 1-3, WIC vouchers are issued Tuesdays and Wednesdays from 8-4.

Health Check – Provided for children that are Medicaid/Peachcare eligible. It includes a comprehensive physical exam for children, which includes developmental and nutritional assessments. Screenings for vision, hearing, dental, and lead are a vital part of this clinic. Services are provided for children from birth to 21 years of age on Thursdays by appointment.

Babies Can’t Wait – provides health education and social services for families of children who may be developmentally delayed. Children from birth to 3 years of age who may be developmentally delayed are eligible for services provided by the Early Intervention Staff by referral.

Children 1st – provides a system of identification, linking, monitoring, access to primary health care and service coordination for children 0-4 years of age who are at risk for poor health and/or development by appointment only.

Car Seat Safety Classes – provides free car seats for low income residents of Randolph County whose parent or legal guardian participates in a class and then correctly installs their car seat in their vehicle. Parents may bring their installed car seats to be inspected by a Child Passenger Safety Technician for correct installation as well as any manufacturer’s recall on the 3rd Friday of each month from 9:00 to 3:00.

Teen Health Services – promotes optimal health in all teens, males and females, up to the age of 19. Counseling is provided on abstinence, birth control methods to prevent or delay teen pregnancy, STD’s, nutrition, and referrals are made as needed. All visits are Confidential on Tuesdays and Thursdays by appointment.

Environmental Health

Inspections – motels, restaurants, assisted living agencies, foster homes, schools, public swimming pools, and other sites to promote a healthy environment for all. Provides regulation, permitting, and where required enforcement.

Disease Control – provides programs for insect, rodent, and rabies as well as food and water borne illnesses.

Pollution Control – services include investigations of conditions related to environmental health, water testing, septic tanks, lead poisoning, air quality, asbestos, radon, and others.

Education – provides programs to schools, communities, businesses, civic groups, and individuals.
